KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) — The four-day visit conducted by Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF) Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa, to Morocco, which ended Thursday has successfully introduced the approaches and movement of moderation in managing the flow of extremism that has begun to spread extensively in the global world communities.
A series of briefings and discussions were held with the relevant authorities during the visit, organised by the Malaysian Embassy in Rabat, in order to further expand the international network of GMMF, an initiative by Malaysia to introduce a moderate approach, which has gained widespread attention and acceptance from many in the international stage,
In a special lecture held in collaboration with the Mohammed V University in Rabat, Nasharudin presented a number of initiatives organised by GMMF as well as providing suggestions on areas of cooperation between Morocco and the GMMF, the movement said in a statement.
It said that among the ventures or initiatives that have been tentatively agreed upon were for the organisation of joint programmes based on the sharing of best practices of both Malaysia and Morocco in dealing with radicalisation and extremism.
The university also expressed its interest to be party to the Alliance of Researchers on Moderation initiative that was launched by GMMF recently.
Apart from delivering his lecture, Nasharudin also held bilateral discussions with President of the Moroccan Centre for Strategic Studies, Dr Mohammed Benhammou, and met Malaysian students studying in Morocco.
According to GMMF, these engagements were made in tandem with the presentation of a paper by Nasharudin at the ’3rd International Conference of Sufism’ held in the city of Fez, Morroco, where he was invited to deliver a keynote speech on the topic of moderation as an approach and movement towards world peace.
