Conflict Resolution

Conflict resolution refers to the concerted and collective attempt to solve conflicts head-on, especially through the available institutions. It seeks to reconcile the divergent interest, identity, and ideology of all, with the goal of fostering a permanent and peaceful solution.

In ASEAN, for example, the fatalities from inter state conflicts have been reduced by 93% since 1976. Incidents of inter state conflicts have also seen a dramatic drop in the region.

Can other parts of the world emulate the best practices here, if any? Systemic solutions must be found to ensure the global environment can flourish in peace and moderation. The existence of ASEAN Regional Forum, East Asian Summit, and ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Plus Meeting provide a way for other countries to understand Asia’s balance of arms and affluence.
